1. The best event that happened to me this school year. 2.My opinion on my first year at Sahmyook University 3. I tried NY style Pizza. -Min Kwan-

1. The best event that happened to me this school year was that I made good grades last semester. It was very fruitful to me. Actually, I was worried about that the first grades in the university would be low. However, as a result of working hard,  I made good grades. High grades are highly important to me because I plan to apply for a student exchange program. Anyway, through this event, I gained confidence.
2.  My opinion on my first year at Sahmyook University is generally good. There are nice facilities and students in this university. All the professors are kind and generous. When I had some problems, they helped me kindly. My classmates are humorous and outgoing so everyday they give me a lot of energies. I like this university in general. I am lucky that I chose this university.
3. I tried NY style Pizza in Itaewon. Last week, I greeted my birthday with my friends. We went to good Pizza restaurant in Itaewon. The restaurant’s name is ‘The Pizza Peal’. There were a lot of Pizzas. Also, there were many people. We ordered Pizza ,it was named ‘half and half Pizza’. There existed much cheese on pizza. Topping was tasty. We thought it was very very delicious. The price was not too expensive. As a result, we were satisfied in general.

Final version of my presentation script -Min Kwan-

-Why did we become interested in the Ice Rink ? –

Min Kwan : Now, I will introduce why we became interested in the Ice Rink. The reason why is the Pyeong-Chang Winter Olympics in 2018.  This Winter Olympics is very meaningful to Koreans. Every Korean expects the Winter Olympics because it will be held in Korea after 30 years. To celebrate the Winter Games, we chose to do volunteer work at the Ice Rink. We thought that we could feel patriotism by serving there. Also, we thought that it would be worthwhile to serve there.

-What did we do in Volunteer ? –

Min Kwan : We did a lot of things in this volunteer project.  Volunteered from 1pm to 6pm. After we arrived, we checked the construction of the Ice Rink, and prepared to volunteer. We cleaned skates, protective equipment and the inside of rink. And We helped guests enter the facility. Also, we became safety officers. Finally, we guided the guests out.

-Thoughts-

Min Kwan :  I felt many things through this volunteer work. At first, I started volunteering because it was just a task. I simply went to fulfill my requirements. However, when I saw other volunteers’ suffering, I felt that I should work hard. It was not easy to serve others but it was very fruitful. So we should be volunteering with freewill mind.

Our athletes prepared for the Winter Games since they were young. No one can look down on their efforts. So we should encourage and praise them whether the results are good or bad. I also will be proud of them and support them.

Introduce how I spent the Chuseok holiday ?

In this week, the Chuseok holiday was finished. So I introduce how I spent the holiday. During the holiday, I spent much time with my family. However, because my father is in China, I couldn’t spend time with father. In a long time, I met my cousins and aunts. one of my cousin enlisted in the army, so I couldn’t meet him. My aunts were very busy because they had to make some foods for ancestor, My grandfather. Until my aunts prepared, I played with nephew and niece. Because they are just children, we played the computer games  for children. Next day early morning, I changed my clothes and prepared to greet my grandfather. My family also prepared to greet grandfather and then made a low bow. I gave delicious foods that my grandfather liked to him (grandfather). After finished, we also ate the foods such as fish or vegetable pancake or Braised Short Ribs. It was sad, but they had to go to home for next day. They had their jobs and works. They took a rain check on meeting, and went back to their home.

Introduce my best friend ! -Min Kwan-

Now, I start to introduce my best friend and his name is Yong-Wu. I met him when I was 15 years old and He was also 15 years old. I met him in middle school and we were classmates. He always helped me when I had problems. He gave me good advices or ideas. For example, when I fought with one of my friends, he helped that I could reconcile with them. So thanks to him, I could overcome a number of difficulties. He is talkative, generous and outgoing. when I talked with him, he never stoped talking. Also, he didn’t save money. He usually liked to buy something for other people. His personality was not self-centered. He always took care of others. In addition, he was optimistic. Whatever happened, he always smiled. We usually like to talk in Cafe or good restaurant all night long. So if we’re together now, probably we are going to talk through the whole night. I hope we can meet soon and come to talk together.

I live in Namyangju and introduce my neighborhood. – Min Kwan-

I live in Namyangju, Korea. Actually, my neighborhood is very big and traditional. My neighborhood is country so there are farms in some places. However, most surrounding environments are apartments or buildings because this is the 21st century ! Everyday, I commute to university by bus. For going to university, firstly I go to bus stop where is nearby my house. Name of the station is Dae-han apartment. And then I transfer buses when the bus arrived at the station, name of the station is Toegyewon-Myeon. I calculate on commuting time, it takes about an hour. From Dae-han apartment station to Toegyewon-Myeon station, it takes 40 minutes and from Toegyewon-Myeon to Samyook university, it takes about 20 minutes. And I introduce my neighborhood. My neighborhood is traditional and people are mostly older. The reason why there are many older people is that in Namyangju, the air is clean and fresh. Also, there exist many places nearby where people can volunteer to help our community. One of the places is Namyangju senior welfare Center. I served in there two years ago. I wish there are more subway stations near my house. If there exist many subway nearby my neighborhood, I will be able to go to school faster than now. This is only thing that I would like to improve in my neighborhood.

I watched KBS special report on English Learning. – Min Kwan –

Through this video, I could learn three strategies for learning English. First strategy is listening English a lot and speaking sentences loudly. In the video, people had to record more than 50 times. And Sencond strategy is repeated speaking practice. Participants continued telling many sentences until their bodies and brains remember. Third strategy is practicing sentence what they are interested in. Many experts said that practicing repeatedly is the most important. They emphasized these ways continuously. One Korean professor in the video has experience that practices only one English sentence throughout the day.

I think free talking with foreigners is also good strategy for learning English. If Korean people can have one hour to talk with foreigners day by day, their English skill will be highly improved. In my case, I went to the Englsih Academy. In there, I had a time to talk with foreigner teacher. So my speaking Englsh skill got better and also I could learn their culture, which helped speak practical Englsih.

My summer vacation ! – Min Kwan-

These photos are taken during summer vacation and there is the NamSan tower (The NamSan mountain ). I took these photos after climbed the NamSan mountain. If you ask how to climb the mountain, my answer is using cable car ! The NamSan mountain is located very high so I could see the beautiful night scenery at night.It was very bright and beautiful. On the mountain, a number of high and big buildings are also looks like small buildings. In the second photo, the green tower is called NamSan tower, which is very long and high and famous in Korea and many tourists come here.

I did a lot of things in this summer vacation. First of all, I prepared a chinese certificate test ( HSK ). I will take a test this month and I think I will be able to pass an exam. Secondly, I met my friends who were preparing to go to the army. This was very significant thing. If I had not met in this summer vacation, I would not have seen them  for two years.

The favorite thing that I did is playing computer game ( OverWatch ). This game is very interesting. Through this game, I could learn teamwork and cooperation. Other people think playing games is a waste of time, I could relieve my stress of studying in summer vacation.

Three advantages of studying English. -Minkwan-

The first advantage of studying English is that I can communicate with foreigners. It helps to get diverse values. Through various values, we can broaden our thinking and accept diversity. And I can broaden much knowledge. Also, I can encounter different cultures. Encountering many cultures is also helpful to changing thinking, if my thinking stays in one place. There exist a number of people in the world and most of them can speak English so if I’m able to speak English, I can communicate with all of them and I may get a lot of friends who will be very helpful in the future. The second advantage is that I can get high scores of TOEFL or TOEIC. Scores of TOEFL or TOEIC are very important in Korea because major companies find people who get high scores of TOEFL and TOEIC. So it is essential to make high scores of them if people want to find good jobs. I don’t know what it’s like in other countries but in Korea, the major companies also want people who have high scores of them. So people have to get high scores(TOEFL, 90~110) (TOEIC, 800~950). It is reality in Korea. The third advantage of studying English is by studying English, our brains will be better. Scientifically, our brains become more active and better when we study the second foreign language, which is like studying math. I introduced 3 advantages of studying English. To sum up, first advantage is I can communicate with other people who have different values and second is I can get high score in English certificate and be a better version of myself. Third advantage is by studying English, our brains and IQ will be improved.

-Min Kwan- What I like and don’t like about Sahmyook University is..

First, What I like about Sahmyook University is that Sahmyook university prohibits students drink alcohol and smoking, which is conducive to being more healthier. In addition, Sahmyook university helps students can stop drinking and smoking. There are programs in Sahmyook university. If students use these programs, they can stop drinking and smoking more easily. If students success to stop drinking and smoking, Sahmyook university awards a scholarship. So I think these are really good programs. Secondly, what I don’t like about Sahmyook university is Sahmyook university prohibits eating meat. I think meat has one of the most important nutrients. The Scientists also say people should eat at least small amount meat while they alive. Also I like eat meat so I hope that Sahmyook university admit eating meat. I heard that Sahmyook university doesn’t prohibit all of meats. So if Sahmyook university admits eating other kinds of meat, I will be more happier while I attend Sahmyook university.

 

The person who I really admire is Oda Eiichiro. -Min Kwan-

Oda Eiichiro is Japanese cartoonist and he is very famous in Asian. His representative cartoon’s name is ‘One Piece’. The cartoon ‘One Piece’ is highly famous Cartoon in Asian such as Japan or South Korea so many people know his Cartoon. The first reason why I admire him is that story of the cartoon ‘One Piece’ is very amazing and interesting. For example, in the story, there exist some fruits so if people eat this fruit, it makes people get amazing abilities, likes the movie ‘The Incredibles’. Secondly, how he influenced my life? After I saw the cartoon ‘One Piece’, I interested in many another cartoons, which made me that I want to be cartoonist like Oda Eiichiro and I decided that I will make very interesting cartoon like ‘One Piece’. Maybe I will not able to be cartoonist in the future, but I want to be cartoonist some time or other. Last reason is his cartoon gives me hope for life. His cartoon became great pleasure in my life. When I’m depressed or when I got dumped by a woman, if I watched this cartoon, I could relieve stress. So if I have a chance, I also want to make cartoon which is highly conducive to giving pleasure to another people.
